Resting in Nature

How is your heart today? We all know that 2020 has been quite a year to reckon with. Even if you have enjoyed aspects of the circumstances we find ourselves in or are enjoying the potential for change that seems necessary, life in all likelihood has probably not been easy. There has never been a more important time to look after our health and wellbeing than this. To different degrees this collective experience has taken its toll on us, physically, emotionally and mentally.

Whatever you are committed to right now, programming in time to really rest is the best thing you can do for your mental and physical health as well as for your loved ones. Quite often people struggle to make time to rest, even for just 10 minutes a day. I can almost guarantee, the less time you feel you have, the more important taking time for yourself probably is.

Let your first act of self care then be to schedule in rest, even before you fill in the days other activities in your diary. Knowing you have that space for yourself will already start to return on your investment.

Once you have programmed time in, the difficulty then becomes how to rest, and this will be different for many of us. Getting a good nights sleep cannot be overstated, but also taking mini breaks through the day to reset can be a great way to practice giving yourself time. A regular meditation practice can also dramatically improve your ability to rest and the quality of your rest. Taking 10 mins everyday to practice meditating will be a huge investment in your wellbeing.

Tuning in to yourself and to nature through meditation is a tried and tested means of recovering a sense of self and a deeper connection to something greater than the immediacy and details of your life. Nature has a profound capacity to bring us back into the presence of ourselves in our lives. It is incredibly healing and reflects back to us the totality of life and its ever changing beauty. Wild or curated, we all have a special place in nature that we long for. Imagine yourself in that place, or even better be outside in nature and listen to the meditation below. Its intent is to ground and nourish you so you feel rested and restored. To begin, find a comfortable position somewhere warm and peaceful put on your headphones and enjoy!
